Dratini is a pure dragon-type Pokémon that looks similar to a small, blue sea serpent with a white bottom and a rounded snout. It possesses large, demonstrative eyes and a small white fin-like growth on its forehead. Despite its good-looking appearance, it is the beginner stage of the most powerful and evolutionary dragon Pokémon. It is one of the strongest Dragon-type Pokémon. It evolves in three stages and is pretty difficult to prepare for a fight.

 In the research conducted on Karlo, the Mew (Initial name of Draini) Pokémon is considered the forefather of all Pokémon. The DNA of the Mew Pokémon matches that of all existing Pokémon.  This special genetics allows them to transform and mimic any creature that it encounters. It looks like a small pink-colored mammalian having a thin tail.  Irrespective of the fact how it looks, it possesses immense psychic capabilities. 

The Myth of the Mirage Pokémon

Earlier, Dratini was considered a total myth that just appeared in the fantasy stories. It is also called a Mirage Pokémon, as it vanishes quickly and is seen by very few. The story of the Dratini begins in Fussia City, where a Safari Zone warden specked it, but it vanished. No one else had seen it for generations, and the existence of Dratini is denied by the locals.

After decades, scientists confirmed its existence when one of them caught it in the hidden lakes of the Safari Zone.

Due to its elusive nature, Dratini is also called “The Mirage Pokémon,” and decades before, it was termed as “Mew”. The mysterious nature of Dratini is not just a gaming tactic, but rather, its core identity across Pokémon narrative, biology, and all the urban legends of the 1990s.

Stage 1:  The Mirage

Goal:  Survival and Growth

The initial phase of Dratini evolves to get Survival and grow in the game.  Initially, it was founded in Glass Canon, which is unable to take many hits and needs evolution.  Evolution triggers it to reach level 30 and is named Dragonair. The trainer trains it to emit Thunder Wave, which has the capability to paralyze the opponent and survive in the game. 

Stage 2:  Dragonair (The Noble Serpent )

Goal:  Get Expertise in the Gaming Element

After achieving level 30, the Dratini changes its skin and gets strengthened as Dragonair. Reaching this stage requires the most patience, and Dratini evolves to the next level at 55. During the gameplay, many players lose patience, get frustrated, and leave the game between levels 30 to 50. 

Significant moves of Dratini 

At level 39, it reaches Dragon Rush, which causes serious damage. 

Level 45 to 50 is the most important evolution of Dratini, which is  Dragon Dance that boosts attacks and speed, letting Dragonair sweep opponents.

Stage 3:  Dragonite (The Titan)

Goal:  Complete Dominance

On reaching level 55, the Mirage ends, and after undergoing a massive physical change, it gets wings and turns into a Dragon Flying-type Pokémon.  It has the potential to learn tactics like Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Earthquake, Outrage, and Fire Blast. and beats the rivals.

How to Get Dratini: Game-by-Game Locations

Dratini is one of the most coveted Pokémon.  Due to its rarity and formidable evolution to. Dragonite, it has become the top choice for gamers.  However, it is hard to find in different Pokémon games. So, let’s find out where to get Dratini? 

Generation I & III (Kanto: Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed, LeafGreen)

In addition to being able to catch Dratini by fishing with a Super Rod, Dratini can also be found through the following two methods

• The Rocket Game Corner (Celadon City): The easiest method of all is to purchase Dratini as a prize for 2,800 in Red/FireRed, for 4,600 in Blue/LeafGreen, or for 2,100 in Yellow. Safari Zone: Use the Super Rod to fish for Dratini in any body of water in the Safari Zone. 
• Encounter rate is approximately a 15-25% chance of being able to catch Dratini, depending upon which game version you are playing. However, be cautious, because Dratini can flee at a moment’s notice. 

Generation II & IV (Johto: Gold, Silver, Crystal, HG, SS)

Dragon Clan Mythology Dratini is mentioned within Johto and is associated with Dragon Clan lore. 

• Dragon’s Den:  You can perform Surfing or Fishing here to find wild Dratini with a finding rate of  10%-30%.
• Special Gift: Upon completing the Dragon Master’s Trial after defeating Claire, as the last Gym Leader, you receive a Level 15 Dratini from the Master.

If you answer the Master’s questions compassionately in Crystal, HG, or SS, the Dratini you receive as a gift will know the rare move, with extreme speed.

Generation V (Unova: Black, White, B2, W2)

Generation V Dratini cannot be found in the Unova Region during gameplay, but is featured after completing game objectives. To obtain Dratini in Unova, you can use the following methodology.

• Dragonspiral Tower: Using the Super Rod, you can find Dratini in Dragonspiral Tower’s water. 
• Floccesy Town (only Black2 & White2): After beating Benga at the top of the Black White Treehollow (White 2), you can go to Alder’s house and receive a SHINY Dratini as a gift. If you beat Benga on Black2, you can obtain a SHINY GIBLE from Alder’s house.

Generation IX (Paldean: Scarlet & Violet) 

It is easier to locate Dratini in the open-world gaming format of today.

• Casseroya Lake: It is commonly found in pools of water located on all of the little islands on the lake.
• North Province, Area 2: Many waters can be found near/at the base of the waterfalls here. 

Shiny Dratini & Rare Variants

Visuals: Finding a standard Dratini can be difficult, but finding a shiny Dratini or one with an extremely rare moveset is often the ultimate goal for many Master Trainers. These variants are considered a “Mirage” and are highly sought after in the Pokémon community. 

A Shiny Dratini is bright pink, with a white belly, unlike its blue form. 

Dargonite Transition:  When Dratini evolves into Dragonair, shiny Dratini retains its pink coloring. After its final evolution into Dragonite, however, the color changes to dark olive green with purple wings. Rare Variants: The most famous rare Dratini variant is the “Extreme Speed” Dratini. The Extreme Speed Dratini was given to trainers by the Elders from the Dragon Clan in the Dragon’s Den Johto; therefore, this particular variant will not be found in the wild and can only be gained by passing the “Trial of the Dragon.  

Battle Strategy: Movesets & Typing

The key to mastering the “Mirage Pokémon” is to take your time. The small amount of Dratini and Dragonair set up with speed, and ultimately have Dragonite as an all-around strong Pokémon. As Dragonair evolves into Dragonite, it is considered a pure Dragon type (until its final form), therefore, having different resistances and weaknesses than other Pokémon.

Dratini continues to evolve, and its move pool opens to having an almost complete array of types available.

Growth Set

• Dragon Tail: Forces your opponent out, which prevents them from building up their Pokémon.
• Thunder Wave: Slows down faster Pokémon than you.
• Aqua Tail: Great against Fire & Rock types.
• Dragon Dance: This is by far the most important move to use. You will boost your Attack & Speed at the same time.

Legendary Set

Dragonite/Competitive

• Extreme Speed: This is a +2 priority move. Use this to finish off low-health Pokémon before they can hit you.
• Outrage: Extremely powerful move that does massive damage (Dragon), but it also “locks you in” for 2-3 turns (you can use Pesim Berry to heal Confuse).
• Earthquake: This move is critical for hitting Steel/Poison Pokémon’s resistance to Dragon-type moves.
• Roost: Heals 50% of your HP. If you have Multiscale, you will reset your damage mitigation of 50%.
