Larvesta (#0636) | Stats, Evolutions, Moveset, Locations, Battle Strategies

Larvesta is a worm-like Pokemon that resembles a moth caterpillar. It features five red horns, shaped like sunbeams, protruding from the fluffy white fur around its neck.

This comrade, with its evolution Volcarona, shines as two of the four Pokemon (Larvesta, Volcarona, Sizzlipede, and Centiskorch) to support the bug and fire type combination. This doesn’t only add fire-type moves to their inventory but also makes them immune to most types, including fire and flying types.

Origen and Lore

The name, Larvesta, may be a fusion of two words – larva (life stage of an insect) and Vesta (Roman goddess of the hearth). Given its flaming powers, it may also relate to lava.

Its design is mainly inspired by a moth larva, most likely the larvae of the Atlas moth, reflecting its bug nature. Besides that, its curly red horns may be referenced from diverging sun rays, resembling the added fire element.

However, its overall torch-like appearance justifies its species — the torch Pokemon.

Every series, from Gen V, witnesses a new story and background of this poke monster. Its array of folklore can be found in the Pokedex entries of multiple regions.

Biology and Behavior

Larvesta is a fuzzy Poke-monster with a soft body structure and ocean-blue eyes. Its upper body is covered with white fur, while its lower body remains brown and uncovered. With that, it features three pairs of tiny legs and whorled horns.

It often shoots fire from its horns, using them as an attack and defense mechanism. It is believed that the fire is strong enough to cut through iron as well. Moreover, this furry man is once seen using his fire to fly high in the air.

Evolutionary Line

Larvesta evolves into Volcarona, a sun Pokemon, at Level 59. This level can be reached by battling trainers and wild Pokemon, or in hasty circumstances, by using rare candies.

However, if it is holding an everstone or an eviolite, it will not evolve even after reaching the level. For that, take away the stones and level them up once again, and you will find it evolving into Volcarona.

Female Volcarona and Larvesta can be bred with different male species to create stronger offspring. This can be useful to learn certain egg moves, like Harden and Morning Sun, that can not be learned otherwise.

In some cases, the male parent directly passes on an egg move, which can be used right after hatching. In other cases, the hatched Pokemon must level up to learn a certain egg move.

Training and Battling — Type Effectiveness

Larvesta as a beneficial party Pokemon requires proper training and strategic movesets. However, once you learn to utilize its strong points, it can be worth the effort.

If it were to be a single bug type, then it would have been prone to major move types. However, being a dual bug-fire type, it can easily survive through a majority of critical hits

With its fire moves, it can easily take down Grass, Bug, Fairy, and Fighting-type. While its bug ability can be used against Ice type. Overall, it will also make a good LC (Little Cup) tier Pokemon for Pokemon Go players.

Moves and Abilities

Larvesta comes equipped with 2 useful abilities – Flame body and Swarm.

Flame Body

It should never be switched into a match with a Rock-type, as they deal 2x damage. Moves such as Stealth Rock, Rock Slide, Earthquake, and Rock Tomb can be OHKO (One Hit Knock Off). Moreover, water-type moves such as Water Pulse and Scald can also lead to greater damage.

Benefit from its U-Turn move to safely switch to a different Pokemon in the battle. Keeping Rock-types and Water-types in the party can greatly help in tackling the only opponents Larvesta is weak to.
